Sherman Alexie’s “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” Banned from Idaho School District

In the book, Alexie, who is Spokane/Coer d’Alene, freely writes about topics about racism and sexuality.`

By a vote of two-to-one, the school board voted to ban the book from its curriculum after some parents complained about language, racial epithets and “anti-Christian” rhetoric contained within the book. The book had been on list of supplemental reading for 10th-graders in the school district.
