Protect Chaco Culture National Park

Protect Chaco Culture National Park

Along with ancient ruins and breathtaking vistas, Chaco Culture National Historical Park has one of the best remaining dark skies in the Lower 48. In fact, in 2013 Chaco became just the fourth park in the U.S. National Park System to receive the designation of International Dark Sky Park by the International Dark-Sky Association.

The oil and gas industry is pushing to develop new resources on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land in northwestern New Mexico, just outside of Chaco. Inadequately planned oil and gas development in the area could harm the park’s air quality, water quality and quantity, cultural treasures, night skies, and serene setting.
